Fireworks will color the night skies across America, replicating the “rocket’s red glare…”.
We will once again celebrate our struggle, sacrifice and determination to break away from a distant government, unfair taxes and the arbitrary and capricious rule of kings.
It’s the Fourth of July…our American celebration of our hard-won victory for self- determination. It is also the definition of our campaign to win fundamental tax reform as a means of returning power to the average citizen.
“We, the people…” will remember, in between the ribs and watermelon, swimming and fireworks, that Americans brought forth a new idea in the history of the world…that the governed should determine the power of government–instead of the other way around.
We are all working once again to shift power from a distant government to the American people. We are a growing citizen force to end unfair taxation all over again. We are in the vanguard of those who will bring about a better future and healthier nation against special interests, arrogant leaders and a corrupt and aristocratic political class.
This year, as our Gulf Coast neighbors struggle to save their beaches and estuaries, our countrymen struggle with floods across the mid-west, as upheaval politics redefines the power of incumbency and as we struggle as nation to recover, let’s reflect on our journey as a nation. It has not been a bed of roses.
In our darkest hour, Washington’s soldiers marched in tattered uniforms and bare bleeding feet across the snow and ice to surprise the Hessian mercenaries and turn the tide of our Revolutionary War. That courage, toughness and plain dogged stubbornness is American through and through.
We rebuilt our Capitol City after it was burned to the ground in the war of 1812. In 1929 our economy was devastated in the Great Crash and with time, hard work and sacrifice built the strongest economy in the world. We came roaring back with a vengeance after our Pacific Fleet was destroyed in a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor to become the mightiest nation on Earth. When terrorists brought down the twin towers and killed thousands, we rallied together as one people and one nation again determined to survive, prevail and prosper.
Unlike many examples throughout history we have been generous and fair victors, rebuilding Europe and Japan, rebuilding Kosovo where we defended Muslim minorities and in Bagdad where we fought radical extremists and toppled a brutal dictator.
When disasters hit other nations, we are there to help. We Americans have redefined the world with our fight for liberty, with inventions ranging from medicines to personal computers and with a thriving and productive middle class making possible the most astounding rise from a sleepy agrarian economy to a post industrial global powerhouse that the world has ever seen.
When knocked down by natural or manmade disaster or defeated in battle, we get back up and rebuild, becoming stronger, better and more prosperous. This is the story of the United States of America—driven, determined, generous, inventive and resilient.
This July 4th help celebrate the American spirit and our stubborn insistence to rise from knockdowns and defeats to become stronger and better. Celebrate our campaign for a better country and a better future and celebrate our determination to win back our self determination as American citizens.
